It's estimated that between 5 and 7% of the UK population is lesbian, gay or bisexual, although a firm figure is not available as the last census didn't include sexual orientation. Recent legislation has made unfair discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation (or perceived sexual orientation) illegal.
